Multiple recreation activities take place in the forest, including rock climbing with over 200 courses, which erode the forest grounds and the surfaces of the boulders. The white chalk climbers use on their hands to hold the boulders as they climb lines the edge of the hole in the side of this large boulder. The more people climb, the more the boulder breaks down, enlarging the hole. The chalk itself alters the PH of the sandstone and inhibits the growth of natural organisms on the boulder.
